The AEM Energy Audit
We apply our history of building services design and maintenance and our 15 years of energy related consultancy to commercial and industrial projects across the Asiatic region
AEM approaches each engagement to examine all areas of your physical business with fresh eyes and a wealth of experience.
We can use advance data to provide an overview of the site and plan site time. We will look for details of the property, usage and occupation rates, layout, historical energy and resource consumption, system diagrams, equipment lists etc.
We will bring our team to conduct a detailed survey. Typically lasting several days our survey team works with the Site Maintenance team and all members of staff.
Key areas of energy and resource consumption will be examined, such as the following examples.
Supply, distribution and backup systems
Consumption - lighting, public areas, rear of house, guest accommodation, support plant and equipment, water features, heating etc.
Air Conditioning and Ventilation
Heating, cooling and integrated design
Gas and Fuel
Kitchen use, generator and boilers
Hot water supply and distribution
Steam laundry services
Pumping and water features
Pools and Jacuzzis, their operation and systems
Compressed air, ovens
hydraulics, cooling systems
All site-specific aspects are considered. For high rise buildings lift systems efficiency would be examined. In older sites lifecycle of plant brings opportunity to choose efficient replacements. Some facilities are contained in a single building offering opportunities for centralised services, whereas highly spread sites will face challenges with distribution.
A key part of the AEM service is to consider engineering design and implementation. We have knowledge to assess if a system is operating correctly and with the most efficient configuration. We have experience to recommend alternative approaches providing realistic costs for change.
AEM will look for opportunities to identify alternative means of saving energy. For example heat output from one system can often be recovered into a nearby system. Flat roofs form ideal situations for solar heating and electricity generation.
Our reports are designed to be used by in-house teams and senior management to understand the audit’s findings and plan improvements. The Executive Summary gives compact high-level overview with a summary of potential savings by area and payback times for proposed solutions.
Analysis of resource usage patterns from historical data allows regression analysis to uncover trends. A full breakdown of energy cost helps form the basis of estimated savings.
Following the intensive on-site audit inspection we analyse each use area and identify savings. We are able to provide costs for each modification we suggest and provide a realistic ROI figure.
The report is fully illustrated with graphs, images and appendices to back up our recommendations. An ordered Action Plan gives recommendations in order of ease of implementation allowing low hanging fruit to be tackled first.
As an engineering consultancy we supply assistance for design and implementation of items resulting from the audit.
We are keen to ensure that the report does not get "filed". As part of the engagement we can arrange to return after 6 months for a 1 day review to investigate and discuss progress.
In the longterm we aim to build a relationship with each client for Energy Management. Ongoing monitoring of energy performance brings year-on-year savings. Using us to verify supplier claims and designs before implementation ensures correct systems are installed. Engaging AEM to perform testing and commissioning will result in systems running at maximum efficiency.
This is a core service that AEM supplies across industries including manufacturing and the hospitality sector.
